Choosing the right Trampoline for you
Trampoline choice
Trampolines are a great source of fun and exericise and for good reasons remain a firm favourite in family outdoor play. There are, however, so many trampolines and trampoline packages on the market, that you could be forgiven for being confused as to which trampoline to go for.
It seems that just about every supermarket and DIY store is selling a cheap trampoline or trampoline package. On the face of it, they look good value for money and it is hard to see the difference between those trampolines and a trampoline at the higher end of the market.
When it comes to trampolines, the reality is that you may not be comparing like with like. By considering the following three issues when searching for a trampoline that suits you, it will help you narrow your trampoline search range, possibly by eliminating those trampolines at the lower and higher end of the busy trampoline market:
- do your children want a trampoline simply to have a bit of fun with in the garden, or, are your children members of a trampoline club and therefore looking for a sports performance trampoline?
- how old and therefore how heavy your children are. For older children, you clearly need to avoid trampolines with fewer springs or that are described as being suitable for younger children.
- how long you expect the trampoline to last. If you want at least 5 years or more out of your trampoline, then dismiss the budget trampolines in your DIY store.
What size of trampoline?
To a large extent the size of trampoline that you need will be dictated by the size of your garden or the number of children you have. We always recommend that you consider where the trampoline is to be placed in your garden, before buying the trampoline. Trampolines should only ever be placed on a level grassy surface - patio's or any form of hard surface should be avoided, even if you are buying a trampoline complete with trampoline safety net enclosure. If levelling works are required, do these before putting the trampoline together.
Also consider, that whatever size of trampoline you decide on, a safety zone of approximately 2.5m should be left around the entirety of the trampoline. If you are also planning to purchase a climbing frame, a playhouse or any other large pieces of outdoor play equipment, plan where these are to be positioned in relation to the trampoline.
